2010-11 Basketball: Dogs must find roles and mature quickly to be successful

This year’s senior group is even smaller than last year’s lineup of four, and none have experience in the starting lineup. That means replacing 34 points per game in scoring and looking for leadership. Last year’s 9-11 team averaged only five fewer points per game than the 17-win team of 2008-09, but last year’s group saw a drop in assists, steals, free throw percentage and three-point shooting.

Coach Rick Lin enters his 19th season at the helm of the Lady Bulldog basketball program and for the first time finds himself having to replace all five starters to begin a season. That lack of experience is the reason the Lady Bulldogs find themselves in the #6 seeded position in the 34th Annual Gallatin Invitational.

Nine from Gallatin at clinic band concert

Nine Gallatin band students participated in the 60th Annual North Central Missouri Bandmaster Association Band Clinic Concert held Nov. 22. Dr. Thomas O’Neal was conductor. Marcia Spence was French horn soloist.

Gallatin band students included Daniel Argyle, flute; Chad Robertson and Melinda Hess, clarinet; Bo Malo, baritone saxophone; Tyler Avriette, trumpet; Michael Youd, trombone; E.J. Owings, tuba; Jack Malo and Monica Hanson, percussion.

Winston R-6 BOE: Dates set for Christmas program, board filing

The All School Christmas Program will be held at 6 p.m. on Dec. 7 at Winston R-6.

North Daviess R-3 BOE: Christmas program coming up, filing dates set

The North Daviess Christmas Program will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 15, in the elementary gym.

In other business at the school board meeting held Nov. 16, the filing dates for board election were set for Dec. 14, 2010, thru Jan. 18, 2011. Filing will be available at both the high school and elementary buildings. Election will be held in April 5, 2011.

Gallatin R-5 BOE: Candidate filings set for Gallatin, secretaries receive pay hike

Candidate filings for Gallatin School Board will be held from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Dec. 14 until Jan. 18, during regular school hours. Filing may also be done by appointment.

The Gallatin Board of Education approved adjustments to the salaries of high school secretaries during their regular meeting held Nov. 18. Lynda Swopes received a contract for service as Board of Education Secretary in the amount of $6,500. This

Daviess County Courthouse News (11-24-2010) – Courthouse closes for Thanksgiving holiday

The courthouse will be closed Thursday, Nov. 25 for Thanksgiving. County offices will also be closed on Friday, Nov. 26; however, the Circuit Clerk’s office will be open, as the Friday after Thanksgiving is no longer a state holiday.

County Commission

James Lewis, road and bridge supervisor, reported that they will be working in Marion Township this week.

Bills were audited and paid.
