David Holcomb, 60, is a lifelong resident of Daviess County. He graduated from Coffey High School in 1967. He attended college classes for water certification; ISO 300 and 700 training for Homeland Security; and 280 hours of certified commissioners training.

Drivers Examination Station closes for election

The Gallatin Driver Examination Station will be closed Nov. 2 due to the election.

The public should use the Chillicothe Driver Examination Station, located at 715 Washington Street as an alternate. Testing hours at the Chillicothe DE Station are 8 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Normal testing hours for the Gallatin station will resume on Nov. 9 at 9 a.m.

Final public meeting on water plant tonight

A final public meeting regarding the water plant will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27, at the Dockery Park building.

The meetings are in regard to the revenue bond question to be placed on the ballot in November. Citizens will vote on the purchase of a new water treatment plant.

Three fugitives captured NW of Pattonsburg

The three prisoners who escaped from the Daviess/DeKalb Regional Jail were captured without incident Tuesday afternoon, according to law enforcement officials.
The inmates, one a convicted murderer, had been on the run since Sunday evening, Oct. 24, 2012. The men escaped from an exercise yard at about 8 p.m., where they used wire cutters to get through the fence.

Amendment 2 Is Bad Tax Policy, Say Members of Missourians for Tax Justice

ST. LOUIS, Mo.-  Missourians for Tax Justice (MTJ), a statewide grassroots advocacy organization, has endorsed a NO position on Amendment 2 on the November 2 General Election ballot. If ratified by Missouri voters, Amendment 2 would amend the Missouri Constitution to exempt any Missouri resident who is a former prisoner of war and who has a “total service-connected disability” from paying property taxes on his or her home.
