Emily & Heaven Waln chosen as finalists in pageant

Emily Waln, 5, and Heaven Waln, 6, have been chosen as state finalists in the National American Miss Missouri state pageant to be held July 30 and 31 at the Marriott Union Station in St. Louis.

Lake Viking looks to increase revenue

Proposals to gain more revenue for Lake Viking were discussed with an eye on multiple lot owners during a meeting of the Viking Valley Association on July 11.

The lake has several multiple property owners that own in excess of seven lots. The fee structure as it stands today, only provides that lot owners pay assessments up to seven lots. After seven, owners pay a $10 multi lot fee up

Maxine Elaine Morris 1917 – 2010

Maxine Elaine Morris, 92, Pattonsburg, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2010 in St. Joseph, Mo.

She was born Sept. 30, 1917 in Pattonsburg, Mo., the daughter of Olin and Bernice (Vance) Meadows.

On Dec. 6, 1936, she married Woodrow Morris in Pattonsburg, Mo. He survives at the home. Maxine and Woodrow owned and operated the Imperial Oil Service Station in Pattonsburg for many years. The new town of Pattonsburg was

Morgan Dawn Warner 1997 – 2010

Morgan Dawn Warner, Pattonsburg, earned her angel wings and passed peacefully in the arms of her family on July 22, 2010. She was born Aug. 5, 1997 in Liberty, Mo. Morgan was the daughter of Sam and Shelley Warner of the home and Raven Warner (Offield) and Brady Harville of Blythedale, Mo.

Jean Norman Taylor 1921-2010

Jean Norman Taylor, 89 of Gallatin, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at the Cameron Regional Medical Center.

Services were held at 11 am, Saturday, July 24, at the First Christian Church in Gallatin. Visitation was held one hour prior to service. For those friends that were not able to attend the service, there was also a visitation call after 11 am on Friday, at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin.

Daviess County Humane Society asks for volunteers

There has been such an overwhelmingly positive response to having a humane society in our area that the Daviess County Humane Society has grown faster than was prepared for, according to Pam Testi, president.

"We need more help in our rescue efforts," she said. "We need more foster homes willing to care for an animal until it gets adopted. We need more funds toward all the expenses."
