Sexual harassment case against jail dismissed after settlement

The case alleging sexual harassment and discrimination against the Daviess-DeKalb Regional Jail District and its administrator, Larry Hadley, has been settled for an undisclosed sum of money. The plaintiffs were Amy Sue Curtis of Maysville, Kayci Porter of Hamilton, and Cassie Brown of Bethany.

It’s show time! The Daviess County Jr. Livestock Show opens July 8

The annual Daviess County Jr. Livestock Show will be held this year on July 8, 9, and 10 at the fairgrounds located inside Dockery Park.

The livestock show will open the evening of July 8 with the Swine Show at 4:30 p.m. This is a change from years past. There will be a Pee Wee Show between the boar and gilt classes at approximately 5 p.m.

Fireworks and fun for the family at Lake Viking

One of the best fireworks displays in the region is set for Saturday, July 3, at Lake Viking. Bring your lawn chairs to the fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. at the beach near the clubhouse.

The Fourth of July is quickly approaching and several local fireworks stands have opened. I would like to take this opportunity to wish the citizens of Gallatin a safe and happy Fourth of July and to point out the ordinances for shooting fireworks within the city.

Charlotte Stamper 1938-2010

Funeral services for Charlotte Stamper will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 2, at the Roberson Funeral Home in Pattonsburg.

Burial will be in Pattonsburg Memorial Gardens of Pattonsburg. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Roberson Funeral Home, Pattonsburg. Four-county animal shelter moving slowly toward reality; Daviess needs a board member

A four-county animal shelter to serve Daviess, Clinton, Caldwell and DeKalb is closer to reality, according to Sue Manion, president of the newly formed 4 Paws, a Safehaven for Animals Shelter.

Manion is the founder of Safehaven Animal Rescue. Safehaven cooperates closely with the Cameron Animal Shelter and other area rescue groups like Wayside Waifs to find homes for unwanted animals.

Oren Grimes 1958-2010

Funeral arrangements for Oren Grimes have been arranged by Brown Funeral Home in Cameron. The body has been cremated.

Oren Lee Grimes, 51, died at his residence on June 27, 2010.

Oren was born on Dec. 7, 1958, in Chillicothe to Edward Clayton and Geneva L. Phillips Grimes. He was a 1977 graduate of the Gallatin High School and had attended Trenton Junior College.

City crews patching holes, waiting on weather

Street Superintendent Teddy Holcomb told the Gallatin Board of Aldermen that the city street crew has been patching holes around town. He wants to start laying streets as soon as the weather cooperates.

He said the city is waiting for the loader to come back from being repaired; hopefully, it will be back this week.

In other business at the meeting held June 28, public comments were made regarding fireworks.
