First meeting of Humane Society reflects good turn out

Daviess County’s newly formed Humane Society had a good turnout for its first meeting on April 22, at the library in Gallatin.

Volunteers signed up to be part of rescues; to foster homes for animals waiting for placement; to help with transporting animals to their foster homes or permanent homes; and to help with fund-raising. Daviess County Sheriff Ben Becerra said his office will make every effort to work with

Jamesport area blood drive to benefit local patients

Individuals in Jamesport can help meet the local needs by donating blood at the community Blood Center blood drive from 3-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, at the Mennonite School gym, 704 S. Myrtle.

Delta Rho celebrates Founder’s Day

Twelve members of the Laureate Delta Rho chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met on April 19 at a restaurant in Cameron to celebrate Founder’s Day. Members signed up for program and hosting duties for the coming year. The next meeting will be on May 3 at the home of Carol Wood. Barbara Irby will have the program.

Harry Edgar 1928-2010

Harry Edgar, 81, Independence, died Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at his home.

Graveside services for Harry Edgar were held Saturday, April 24, at Centenary Cemetery, near Gallatin. Arrangements were by McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, in care of the Funeral Home.

Harry was born on Nov. 18, 1928, to Harry Sr. and Elna Mae (Corbin) Edgar in Washington.

Cecil Hobbs 1930-2010

Memorial services for Cecil Hobbs were held Sunday at Resthaven Mortuary, Trenton. Cremains will be buried at a later date at Maple Grove Cemetery in Trenton.

James Christopher 1924-2010

Funeral services for James Christopher were held Sunday, April 25, at the United Methodist Church of Jamesport. Burial was in Masonic Cemetery of Jamesport. City crews gear up for summer

During their regular meeting held April 26, Teddy Holcomb told the Gallatin Board of Aldermen that city crews are going to be working on getting the pool ready, hauling sludge from the sewer plant, and a street plan for the summer.
