2010 Track: GHS track teams unlimber at Trenton Early Bird Relays

Gallatin varsity track teams kicked off the spring season on a cold, breezy day at Trenton High School on Thursday, with mixed results.

A young Lady Bulldog squad found slim pickings in competition with state-champion Hamilton, as well as Lawson, Trenton, Richmond, Carrollton and Princeton. Area athletes receive KAAN recognition

Six area athletes have received post season recognition from a pair of area radio stations.

Gallatin’s Colton Selby and Ashley Owens have been named to the KAAN Radio All-Star Basketball teams. Bulldog wrestlers Levi Michener, Bo Malo and Peter Steele have been selected KAAN All-Star wrestlers.

Winston senior Keshia Youtsey represented her team on the KAAN All-Stars.

Selby and Owens were also named to KMZU Radio all-star teams.

Willett takes runnerup spot in GHS golf opener

Gallatin varsity golfers opened their season last Thursday with head-to-head competition against the Maysville Wolverines, who shot 202 to defeat the Bulldogs on Maysville course.

The Bulldogs, led by Jim Willett’s runnerup score of 48, combined for a total of 212. Terrill Wood shot 51, Wesley Cole carded a 58 and Logan Henderson added 56 for the varsity total.

The jury trial that had been scheduled for Kevin W. Caldwell was set aside. The case was continued to April 16 for a plea agreement. He is charged with distribution of controlled substance near school, class A felony, and involuntary manslaughter, class C felony.

Daviess County fourth graders attend Water Festival

University of Missouri Extension hosted a Water Festival for 68 Daviess County fourth grade students and their teachers on March 15 at the First Baptist Church in Gallatin. Those schools participating included Gallatin, Tri-County, and North Daviess.

Gallatin Youth Wrestlers qualify for state

The Gallatin Youth Wrestling Club had two wrestlers, Harrison Pettit and Trenton Ishmael, qualify to compete in the Missouri USA Wrestling State Championships at the University of Missouri at Columbia on March 27-28.

There were 1,065 wrestlers ages 7-14 competing for state titles in their age and weight divisions. Harrison and Trenton wrestled hard, but did not place. They were coached by head coach Jesse Gray and assistant coach Jason

Four GHS juniors will attend Boys and Girls State

Four GHS juniors will be attending Missouri Boys State and Missouri Girls State at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg during the month of June.

The programs are hosted by the American Legion and provide students with an opportunity to live together as self-governing citizens by informing them about the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of American citizenship. GHS band readies for April concerts, reflects on performance in honor bands

Enrichment students attend GEM Day

Gallatin R-V enrichment students Patrick McNickle, Riley Hagan, Jordan France, John Gibson, and Emma Qualman, their parents and their teacher Kim Brammer attended GEM Day at William Jewell College in Liberty on March 6.
