2009-10 Wrestling: Michener’s 44-win season climaxed by state runnerup finish

Wrestlers from District 4 dominated the Class 1 state wrestling tournament, so it was perhaps fitting that the two best 160-pound wrestlers from D4 went head-to-head to decide who would stand at the top of the podium after the final championship match of the day.

District 4 produced six state champions, 12 state finalists, 30 state medalists, five top 10 teams and eight top 20 teams in the final analysis.

Local 8th graders place in MSHSAA essay contest

Two Daviess County eighth graders recently placed high in this year’s MSHSAA Sportsmanship Essay Contest.

Bailey Morrison was the Gallatin winner of this year’s essay contest. Her essay was entered into the district competition, where she received fourth place in the Northwest District competition. Her sponsor was Ms. Glenda St. John.

Youth wrestlers earn six first place medals at Bethany

Last Saturday may not have been a good day to travel, but it was a great day of wrestling for Gallatin USA youth wrestlers.

The local team took 14 wrestlers to Bethany and came home with six first place medals: Gage Wright, Jagger Gray, Andon Allen, Eli Henke, Harrison Pettit and Colton Trimble.

2009-10 Basketball: GHS teams split at Gower; no room left for make-up games

Last night’s doubleheader at East Buchanan kicked off a hectic final week schedule for Gallatin varsity basketball teams, who will each play four games this week before jumping right into Class 1, District 16 action next week at Albany.

This winter’s barrage of snowstorms has wreaked havoc on high school basketball schedules by forcing several postponements.

War Bonds to be presented Feb. 28

WAR BONDS: The Songs and Letters of World War II " will be presented at 4 p.m. on Feb. 28 at the Gary Dickinson Performing Arts Center in Chillicothe.
