Elks dental unit to visit in area, free dental care for county residents who are eligible

The Elks Mobile Dental Unit is now in its 48th year of providing dental services to deserving residents of Missouri.

The unit is scheduled to visit Chillicothe from Monday, Feb. 1, to Thursday, Feb. 18, and will be located at Hope Haven Industries, 304 Clay St., Chillicothe, Mo. 64801.

Individuals who may be eligible for free dental care while the unit is in Chillicothe and live in the counties

Dell Loughead 1927-2010

Funeral services for Dell Loughead were held Jan. 22, 2010, at Playle & Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville. Memorials are suggested to the Macular Degeneration Foundation and entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th, Unionville, Mo., 63565.

Dell Loughead, 82, Unionville, died at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, on Jan. 19. She had been a patient there for a brief time.

2009-2010 deer harvest tops previous year’s figure

Strong youth, muzzleloader and archery harvests pushed the total to nearly 300,000

Torrential rains, snow and sub-zero temperatures failed to deter Missouri hunters from posting the fourth-largest deer harvest ever, according to the Missouri Department of Conservation.

The 2009-2010 deer season closed Jan. 15 with the end of archery hunting. Altogether, hunters checked 299,461 deer.

Genealogical society meets Jan. 30

The January Daviess County Genealogical Society (DCGS) meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30, at the Sheriff’s Home of the Squirrel Cage Jail.

Dave Stark, Daviess County historian, will be speaking about the tragedy and murder linked to a Civil War revolver which is on display at the Squirrel Cage Jail.

Quin Taylor Weldon Jan. 7, 2010

Scott and Kristi Weldon are the parents of an eight pound girl born at 2:12 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at St. Lukes Northland in Kansas City. The baby was 20 1/2 inches long. She has been named Quin Taylor Weldon.

Rachel Peery and Aaron Holt are proud to announce the birth of a daughter, Ellison Fey Grace Holt, at 1:36 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at Cameron Regional Medical Center.
