2009-10 Wrestling: Steele, Ness, Michener win titles at Lathrop Invitational

Eight individual medal finishes combined for a third place team finish for Gallatin at Saturday’s Lathrop Wrestling Tournament. The event included seven of 10 Grand River Conference schools, with only Tarkio, Rock Port and Hamilton not attending.

Gallatin piled up 169 points to finish a close second behind conference opponent Stanberry (174). Host Lathrop won the team title with 194 points.

Jayvee tourney to wrap up Saturday morning

Due to a power outage last Saturday in Gallatin, the final games of the Gallatin Jayvee Basketball Tournament were postponed until this Saturday.

Hamilton and Trenton will finish their girls game, beginning at 9 a.m. The boys game between Gallatin and Trenton will follow. Admission is free to the games. There will be no concession stand.

2009-10 Basketball: Gallatin teams search for hardware in Friday’s consolation finals

The sixth-seeded position in the Hamilton Invitational turned out to be the toughest draw. Just ask Gallatin’s girls and boys.

Bulldog teams failed to win in Monday and Tuesday pool play after taking on the #2 and #3 teams in each bracket. However, the Bulldogs will each get a third tournament game when they face off Friday for consolation trophies.

2009-10 Basketball: GHS teams beat Albany, surge to 2-0 in GRC play

Albany jumped out to mirror quick starts Friday night against Gallatin but neither girls nor boys squads could hold the pace as the Bulldogs came away with a pair of victories in Grand River Conference action.

Gallatin took the girls’ contest, 53-39, and put the boys’ game in the win column by a 53-31 margin.

State Fair scholarship deadline Feb. 1

Covel D. Searcy Elementary to hold jump rope for heart event

The students at Covel D. Searcy Elementary are jumping at the chance to help fight heart disease and stroke—our nation’s #1 killer. The week of Feb. 8-12, the school will hold its annual Jump Rope for Heart event. Students will jump rope to raise funds for the American Heart Association’s cardiovascular research and educational programs. Winston school changes to seven period day for 2010-11

The Winston R-6 Board of Education approved a change to a seven period day schedule for the high school during their regular meeting held Jan. 18. Currently the high school operates on a 10 period block schedule. The change will take effect next school year, which begins in August, 2010.
