Edward McMahon inurnment Sept. 7

Graveside services and military honors for Edward J. McMahon will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Labor Day, Sept. 7, for the inurnment of ashes at St. John’s Cemetery, Gilman City.

Following, please join the family for a pot luck picnic at St. John’s Cemetery. Bring a lawn chair. In case of inclement weather, the picnic will be held at Casey’s shed at 107 Broadway, Gilman City.

Local News – Son-in-law visits from Germany

A recent visitor of Gene and Ann Schweizer and family was their son-in-law Jeff Plotner.

Jeff is a colonel in the Army stationed at Stuttgart Military Base in Germany with his wife Beth and their 17-year-old son Ian, a high school senior there.

Plotner’s other children are Chelsea, a junior at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla., and Sean, a junior at West Point Military Academy in New York.

Jamesport area blood drive to benefit local patients

Community Blood Center, the provider of blood services to local hospitals, will be conducting a blood drive from 3-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8, in Jamesport at the Mennonite School gym, 704 S. Myrtle, to help the local hospital patients in our area that depend on life saving blood donations.

USDA implements farm storage facility loan program

Daviess County Executive Director of USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) Kirby Payne recently announced that changes to the Farm Storage Facility Loan (FSFL) program have been implemented in accordance with the 2008 Farm Bill. FSA administers the FSFL program on behalf of the USDA Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC).

Dorothy Campbell 1911-2009

Funeral services for Dorothy Campbell were held Aug. 21 at the Gallatin First Baptist Church. Burial was in Rogers Cemetery, near Gallatin. Memorials may be made to the Children’s Mercy Hospital in care of McWilliams Family Funeral Homes, Inc.

Chi-Rho helps jump start the school year

The Chi-Rho youth group hosted 70 plus school age children at their first annual back to school carnival.

 Fourteen carnival style games were available for pre-kindergarten through sixth graders to enjoy. Chief Mark Richards, of the Gallatin Police Department assisted in setting up the safety parameter for the youth, as well as lending the carnival games from the DARE program.

Helen Gastineau 1930-2009

Funeral services for Helen Gastineau were held Aug. 22 at Pitts Funeral Home in Breckenridge. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Breckenridge.
