Dolores Duck of Altamont will be pinning a star on the board at the Ameristar Casino in Kansas City in recognition of her club’s donation to the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation Jerry Lewis Telethon. Winston school board redeems $1,800 per year

A resolution was approved during the regular meeting of the Winston R-6 Board of Education held Aug. 20 calling for the redemption of a portion of general obligation bonds held by the district.

This will prepay all the bonds that are to be paid in 2020 ($20,000) and half of the bonds that are to be paid in 2019 ($10,000). This will save the district approximately $1,800 per year and

Alisa Evans receives Bill Morris Scholarship

Alisa Wilson Evans, Hamilton, is this year’s recipient of the Bill Morris Scholarship.

Alisa has been active in agriculture her whole life and in equine management since she was 10. At 10 years old, her father bought a "rescue" Hackney bred mare for her. Storm takes second in Midwest championships

The 14U C Midwest Championships in Kansas City were held July 9-12. Among the teams present was GR Storm comprised of players from Pattonsburg, Winston, Maysville, Bethany, Cameron and Eagleville. They played 11 games, including a two-game championship match. Head Start classes and home visits begin Aug. 25

Head Start classes and home visits for the Fall Term will begin Tuesday, Aug. 25, in the nine-county Green Hills area.

Head Start, sponsored by North Central Missouri College of Trenton, operates 11 centers and seven home base programs in this region, including a center located in Gallatin. In addition, Home Visitors visit rural homes in the Green Hills counties bringing educational activities to children and families in their homes.

GHS softball girls even record with win over Milan

Gallatin’s varsity softball team earned a split in early season action Tuesday afternoon by taking a 5-4 non-conference road victory against Milan.

Shelby Chadwick had three hits in four plate appearances and scored twice for the Lady Bulldogs. Ashley Owens produced a hit and a run scored. Carly Boyd also had a hit and run scored. Celsie Baker scored the fifth GHS run.

Bulldogs lack depth but not desire as 2009 season kicks off

Gallatin is among only four schools to win any of the last 12 Grand River Conference football titles, but the Bulldogs, who last won a title in 2006, are serious underdogs when previewing the upcoming 2009 season.
