Double Eagle Scout ceremony for Myrick McLey, John Corwin

Myrick McLey and John Corwin, both of Gallatin Boy Scout Troop 67, were awarded the rank of Eagle Scout at a court of honor on June 21 at the First Christian Church of Gallatin. Both boys have been active in Scouts for many years, having begun as Tiger Cubs in first grade and later earning the Arrow of Light, the highest award in Cub Scouting.

Cloggers make national dance off

The large advanced competitive clogging group "Spirit of the Dance" was recently selected for the final dance off at the national dance competition "Talent on Parade."

The event, held at the Veteran’s Auditorium in Des Moines, Iowa, hosted 61 studios from all over the United States. The clogging group, under the direction of owner Vera Nelson and clogging competitive teacher Emily Michener and assistant Kathryn Everly, were one of seven

Paul Stitt -1931-2009

Funeral services for Paul Stitt were held Saturday at Huffman United Methodist Church. Interment was at Coffey, Mo., Cemetery. Arrangements were by Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts to the Conservation Federation of Missouri or the Back Pack Buddies.

Paul E. Stitt, 78, St. Joseph, died Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Heartland Regional Medical Center.

Missouri Bankers Association elects new officers

Ron D. Cornett, president, BTC Bank, Bethany, representing the Mark Twain Region in Northeast Missouri was among Missouri bankers who are continuing to serve their three-year terms on the MBA Board as regional directors.

New officers were elected and installed during the Missouri Bankers Association (MBA) 119th Annual Convention held June 16 to 18 in Branson at The Chateau on the Lake.

Tyler Nathaniel King – b. 5-27-2009

Nathan and Amanda King of Lake Viking proudly announce the birth of a son, Tyler Nathaniel King. Tyler was born at 4:51 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph.

He weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces, and was 20 ½ inches long. He was welcomed home by a sister, Lyndsey Marie, age 2.

Maternal grandparents are Bart and Becky Boyd of Gallatin.

Daviess County Courthouse News (6-24-09) – Marijuana Bust on I-35

Sheriff’s Office

Martin Pliego, 35, West Paul, Minn., was arrested June 19 and charged with possession with intent to distribute, manufacture or produce a controlled substance, class B felony. The arrest was made by Sgt. Larry M. Allen at the Shell gas station at the junction of I-35 and U.S. 69.

When a computer check on the vehicle registration came back "not on file," Sgt. Allen called for the assistance

Maple Anthracnose can be major problem in wet springs

I’ve had a lot of calls recently from homeowners complaining about a disease on their maple leaves. They describe dead areas on the leaves, ranging from a few spots to blotches that involve most of the leaf. In severe cases, the tree will lose leaves.

What they are seeing is Maple Anthracnose. This is a fungal disease, which can become a major problem

Northwest Vipers 9 and under takes first in Hitfest and Showdown

In the last few weeks the Northwest Vipers 9 and under baseball team has taken first place in the Hawaiian Hitfest and second place in the Cowtown Showdown. In the Hitfest the team went 4 and 1 to claim the title. Colin Beck pitched the championship game and Dalton Swalley had 2 triples on the day. In the Showdown they went 2 and 2 to take second at Mid America.
