Jamesport area blood drive to benefit local patients

Last year, 28,000 individuals in our area needed a blood transfusion. This year, the local needs for blood are expected to rise.

Community Blood Center, the provider of blood services to local hospitals, will be conducting a blood drive from 3-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, in Jamesport at the Mennonite School gym, 704 S. Myrtle, to help the local hospital patients in our area that depend on life saving

Head Start aims to meet needs of child, community

The Green Hills Head Start Program, sponsored by North Central Missouri College of Trenton, serves 277 children and families in the nine-county Green Hills area and is responsible for implementing major performance components for children and families which were adopted to insure that the program provided the services necessary to meet these components. Watch corn for nitrogen losses

The amount of rainfall that has occurred this spring has caused concern about the amount of nitrogen available for the corn crop. Some areas have received in a two month time frame over 15 inches of rain. This excessive rain leads to concern about nitrogen being lost.

Double Eagle Scout ceremony for McLey, Corwin

Myrick McLey and John Corwin, both of Gallatin Boy Scout Troop 67, were awarded the rank of Eagle Scout at a court of honor on June 21 at the First Christian Church of Gallatin.

Both boys have been active in Scouts for many years, having begun as Tiger Cubs in first grade and later earning the Arrow of Light, the highest award in Cub Scouting.

Stephen Swofford – 1949-2009

1949-2009

Stephen W. (Steve) Swofford 60 passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Kansas City. Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday June 24, at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Family visitation was one hour prior to service. Burial was in the Centenary Cemetery near Gallatin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Centenary Cemetery or Gallatin VFW Post 2172 in care of the funeral home.

1914 – 2009

Funeral services for Hazel Woodring were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, at Roberson Funeral Home, Pattonsburg, Mo., with burial in Pattonsburg Memorial Gardens.
