Winston names valedictorian, salutatorian, presents awards, scholarships

The Winston R-6 Class of 2009 valedictorian award was presented to Rachel Michael during commencement held May 15. Salutatorian award was presented to April Hall.

GHS FFA Chapter officer team attends LEAD

On May 18, 2009, the Gallatin FFA Chapter officer team attended the LEAD Conference in Trenton. The LEAD (Learn, Educate, Advance, and Develop) program was presented by past state officers. Forty FFA members across the area attended the conference. Chapter officers learned valuable skills such as increasing chapter involvement, agriculture promotion, and developing leadership skills. The following awards were presented to the seniors of Tri-County High School at Jamesport at graduation on May 17.

2009 Golf: Terrill Wood improves on second day of state golf

Gallatin R-5 junior Terrill Wood competed in the Class 1 MSHSAA Golf Championships on Monday and Tuesday, where he finished with a two-day total of 204.

Wood improved dramatically on the second day, shooting a round of 99 to go with a 105 on the opening day of competition at Springfield’s Twin Oaks Country Club.

2009 Track: Short list of local athletes heads to state track meet on Friday

Saturday’s sectional track and field meets in classes 1 and 2 shortened the list of local athletes heading to the MSHSAA Track and Field Championships this weekend at Lincoln University in Jefferson City.

Tyler Brackett and Kelly Critten will represent Gallatin High School at the state meet in the boys long jump and 200-meter dash, and girls triple jump.

Brackett added a sectional title to the district title he won

GHS spring athletes receive special awards

Gallatin R-5 golf and track coaches presented special awards to athletes participating in spring sports at the May 13, 2009, Spring Sports Awards program held at GHS.

Daviess County Courthouse News (5-20-09)

County Commission

James Lewis, bridge supervisor, reported that they will continue to make repairs to bridges around the county this week.

Dale Dickson, Shafer, Kline and Warren, met with the Commission regarding the rewiring project. Mr. Dickson will meet with the National Historical Registry for guidance. The projected bid date will be in June. The Commission will meet with the office holders regarding the timing of the electrical cutoff.
