Annual health fair slated for April 9

The Daviess County Health Department will host their annual health fair in celebration of Public Health Week from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday April 9.

Activities planned are special priced labs including Chem. 12, CBC, Lipid Panel, TSH, PSA. Also planned are Height, Weight and BMI Calculations, Glaucoma Screenings, Nutrition Information, and Door Prizes.

City sets public hearing for demolition grant

The Gallatin Board of Aldermen voted to apply for a 2009 demolition grant during their regular meeting held Monday, March 23. City Administrator Zac Johnson stated that there will be a public hearing at 6 p.m. on April 9 in the GIDA board room at city hall regarding the grant.

Power wheelchairs available

The Senior Wheels USA Program makes available power wheelchairs to senior citizens and the permanently disabled at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify.

The power wheelchairs are provided to those who can no longer walk safely, nor self-propel a manual wheelchair, and who meet the additional guidelines of the program.

Melanie VanBelkum earns RN-BSN

Melanie VanBelkum, daughter of Steve and Elaine Bohannon of Jameson and Tracy and Beth VanBelkum of St. Joseph, received her bachelor of science degree in nursing on Jan. 13, from Graceland University.

Scrappy Quilter’s Quilt Guild plans for quilt challenge

The Scrappy Quilter’s Quilt Guild met March 5 in Trenton with 11 members present.

President Cyndi Johnson presided over the business meeting. Missouri Days quilt show was discussed and committees will take care of registration, ticket sales, ribbons and the quilt challenge. Winston R-6 offers superintendent contract to Brian Robinson

The Winston R-6 Board of Education has offered a superintendent contract for the next school year to Brian Robinson who officially accepted on Friday, March 20.

Mr. Robinson has been the K-8 superintendent/principal at Pleasant View outside of Trenton for the past four years. Prior to that he was high school agriculture teacher at Trenton for six years. Previously, he was adult and high school agriculture instructor for two years
