Richard Gatton

Richard Warren Gatton, 66, of Jefferson City, died Friday, March 20, at Capital Region Medical Center. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Lung Association or the Columbia Audubon Society, P.O. Box 1331, Columbia, Mo., 65205.

Mr. Gatton was born Sept. 6, 1942, in Leon, Iowa, to the late William and Iva (Billings) Gatton.

He was a graduate of Polo High School and a veteran of the Army.

Margaret E. Swofford

1926 – 2009

Margaret E. Swofford, 82, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at her granddaughter’s home near Norborne, Mo. Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Interment was in the Centenary Cemetery near Gallatin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gallatin First Christian Church, Building Fund.

More receiving assistance through WIC program in state, county

The number of Missouri women, infants and children receiving nutrition information and food assistance through the WIC program grew nearly 10% in the last year.

More than 148,000 Missourians currently participate in the program every month, up from an average of 135,000 participants per month last year.
