Meetings ahead for veterans, dependents to discuss opportunities, benefits

Our nation provides several programs for the benefit of our veterans.

However, many veterans are not aware of opportunities open for them, such as the new education program, health care, disability pensions for veterans and dependents, benefits for women veterans, home loan guaranty, nursing home care, burial and survivors benefits, among others.

Katie Patton receives president’s award, initiated into Phi Upsilon Omicron

Katie Patton, a junior at Eastern Kentucky University, recently received the President’s Award for the Fall 2008 semester.

The President’s Award is given to those students who receive a 4.0 grade point average (GPA) while carrying a load of 12 or more credit hours.

Gallatin Science Olympiad competes at Trenton; several teams place first

The Gallatin R-5 High School Science Olympiad team with nine members competed last Saturday at districts in Trenton.

The team placed sixth out of 12 schools with the top four teams going to state.

The category, student participants, and ratings are as follows: cell biology, Cameron King and John Corwin, 1st; ecology, Cameron King and Melissa King, 1st; astronomy, Cameron King and Greg Parton, 2nd

Pattonsburg Clubs-Tree Climbers

Tree Climbers genealogy club had their regular monthly meeting Thursday evening.

It was voted at this meeting to make July 1 the cut off date for the family histories to be turned in for inclusion in the new history book that is to be printed. Remember to get your family history to the club by July 1.
