2008-09 Basketball: GHS hoops still perfect in GRC action

Gallatin varsity basketball teams are both going deep into the season with unbeaten records in Grand River Conference play following dual victories last Friday at Albany.

The Lady Bulldogs used a quick start to run their league record to 3-0 and overall mark to 12-2 with a 59-45 win over the Lady Warriors. Gallatin’s boys used a potent middle portion of the game to power themselves to a 61-43 win

Pattonsburg discusses zoning concerns

The Pattonsburg Board of Aldermen discussed several concerns regarding zoning during their regular meeting held Jan. 14.

Those concerns include: drivers of four-wheelers running on property other than their own; reports of people cutting wood on riparian land; general respect for public and private property; and a day care being used for residential purposes and not commercial.

In other business, bills were reviewed and paid.

Calendar and Menus

Cards and dominoes are every Friday evening. On Friday, Jan. 30, we will have a chili and vegetable and oyster soup supper and also cake. We will accept donations to benefit the senior center. The supper is open to the public. Come early. You’re welcome to stay for the games if you wish.

Judges reshuffle due to retirement

Judge Stephen Griffin, presiding judge of the 43rd Judicial Circuit, has announced his retirement effective Jan. 31. His position will be filled by governor’s appointment.

Judge Warren McElwain, 43rd Judicial Circuit Judge, will serve as the presiding judge until the appointment to replace Griffin is made. Until then, judges for cases in Daviess County will be by assignment.

Daviess County Courthouse News (1-28-09)

County Commission

James Lewis, bridge supervisor, reported that they are making culvert and bridge repairs as weather permits.

Dave Allen, road and bridge department, met with the commission for brush removal assignments in Colfax Township.

The Commission contacted the Department of Natural Resources regarding recent phone calls from hog producers concerning a deadline set by EPA for requirements for air quality. However, DNR could not provide a list of requirements.

Non-credit courses to begin in February at NCMC

The Continuing Education Department at North Central Missouri College in Trenton has announced its spring schedule for non-credit classes.
