Pee Wee wrestling dates set

Gallatin pee wee wrestling coach Doug Nichols has announced dates for the his annual mini camp and wrestling tournament for kids at Covel D. Searcy Elementary.

Wrestlers will learn basic fundamentals of wrestling while pooled together according to age, weight and ability for the tournament.

Following is a schedule for peewee week practices. Participants are asked to arrive and depart on time. There is no cost to participate.

Family Daze: January emphasizes those Christmas gift mistakes

So it’s almost January. A month for, well, personal reflection. Now that the presents are opened, the tree is gone, and the lights are down, you finally have time to sit down and take a good long look at the gifts you bought for your children.

And every year my observation can be summed up in seven words: "WHAT in the heck was I thinking?"

Johnson-Birdsong wed

Jay Johnson of Gallatin and Blaire Birdsong of Sedalia were married at 4:15 p.m. on May 31, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church in Sedalia.

The reception followed the ceremony at the Parkhurst Tiki House in Sedalia.

The bridal party included friends of the bride Kelly Black, matron of honor, of Stover, and bridesmaids Amy Lebar and Laura Nichols of Kansas City.

District One VFW meets

District One, Missouri Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States quarterly meeting will be on Jan. 10, 2009, at Post 1773, Carrollton, beginning at 11 a.m.

District One consists of VFW Posts in Daviess, Ray, Carroll, Chariton, Caldwell, Livingston, Linn, Grundy, Sullivan, Harrison, Mercer and Putnam Counties.

NCMC students on honor lists

North Central Missouri College in Trenton has named students with outstanding academic achievements for the 2008 fall semester to the Academic Honors lists.

Full-time students have been named to the President’s List with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Full-time students achieved Dean’s List recognition with a grade point average of at least 3.5. To be eligible for the full-time honors list, students must have completed a minimum of 12
