2008 Softball: GHS girls keep hopes alive for GRC title share

Gallatin’s 4-0 victory over Polo yesterday (Tuesday) kept alive Lady Bulldog chances for at least a share of the Grand River Conference softball crown, but they will have to be at the top of their game in finishing out the league slate over the next six days.

Dick Michael to enter WJC Athletic Hall of Fame

Dick Michael, who grew up on a farm nine miles north of Jamesport and graduated from Gilman City High School in 1965, will be one of five inductees into the William Jewell College Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, Oct. 11.

Michael, who, along with his brother David, grew up playing baseball around the Jamesport and Trenton areas, was a member (with David) of William Jewell’s 1968 NAIA National Championship

Daviess County Courthouse News (9-24-08)

James Lewis, bridge supervisor, reported that they have made repairs to the bridge that David Gwinn reported last week and are continuing with flood repairs in other areas when weather permits.

Danny Heldenbrand reported that he had been in contact with the State Emergency Management Agency, and there were additional reports of flooding in the county over the weekend.

Reads celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

Samuel and Deloris Read, former residents of Gallatin, St. Joseph, and Cameron, now residing in San Antonio, Texas, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Wednesday, Oct. 1.

They were married on that date in 1958 at the parsonage of the Altamont United Methodist Church by the Rev. John Gooding.

Chi-Rho Youth to hold garage sale fund-raiser with bake sale

Teamwork was seen as the 40 plus members of Chi-rho youth group and parents in attendance met Sept. 12, for an open youth forum.

The group sorted and marked sale items donated for the garage sale fund raiser to be held Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Nelson Mini Storage, in Gallatin. A homemade bake sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in conjunction with the fund raiser
