Lacey Dixon will continue throwing strikes for Johnson County CC

Last Wednesday was a proud day for Gallatin R-5 senior Lacey Dixon and her family. Dixon signed a letter of intent to attend Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kan., where she will continue her softball career this fall.

Lady Bulldogs get South Harrison again; Dogs fall to Warriors

Class 2, District 16 Tournament seedings held true for Gallatin squads Monday night, and that meant the Lady Bulldogs moved on to the semifinal round while the Bulldog boys saw their season end.

Gallatin’s top-seeded girls handled Worth County, 59-27, for their 19th win of the season and victory that clinched yet another matchup with the dangerous South Harrison Lady Bulldogs. Gallatin’s boys fell to #3 seeded Albany, 57-45,

Sportsmanship

A former basketball player in the Women’s National Basketball Association, Sue Wicks, is quoted as saying, "Sportsmanship is knowing that it is only a game, that we are only as good as our opponent, and whether you win or lose, to always give a hundred percent."

This is an excellent quote because it has more than one meaning. One student could look at this quote and say

Morgan Jeffers wins district competition in poster contest

Morgan Jeffers, a Searcy Elementary sixth grader, won the Lions Peace Poster contest this year in her school.

Morgan’s poster was then entered in the district competition which she also won.
Her poster was then entered in the state contest. Morgan is the daughter of Tim and Tracey Jeffers of Gallatin.
“Peace Around the World” was the theme for the International Lions contest this year.

Winston Methodist Church hosts Cub Scout Pack 167 for 13 years

In recognition of Scout Sunday, Cub Scout Pack 167, Winston, attended church services on Feb. 24 at the Winston United Methodist Church.

During the services the Pack presented the church with the 2008 Charter.
This represents 13 straight years that the church has sponsored Unit 167.
After a Mexican pot luck dinner, several individual recognitions were given to the boys who participated in activities and events during the past year

Frost Insurance Agency recognized for loss control and sales 2007

Frost Insurance Agency of Gallatin was recently recognized by both the Cape Mutual Insurance Company and Barton Mutual Insurance Company for outstanding loss control and sales for the year 2007.

Cape Mutual is a member of the Missouri Association of Mutual Insurance Companies and is part of the Barton Mutual Group.
Frost Insurance Agency has been serving Daviess County for 28 years.

Truman Calvin Zentz

1924 – 2008
Truman Calvin Zentz, 83, Lee’s Summit, formerly of Pattonsburg, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008.

He was born March 6, 1924, in Pattonsburg, Mo., the son of John B. and Nancy N. (Swisher) Zentz.
On July 1, 1950, he married Marjorie Louise Zentz in Blue Springs, Mo. She preceded him in death on Feb. 15, 2008.
Survivors include sons, Neal E. (Karen) Zentz and Guy S. Zentz, both

Alma E. Wilson

1915-2008
Alma Wilson, 93, passed Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008 at the Cameron Regional Medical Center. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Family visitation was one hour prior to service. Interment was at Hillcrest Cemetery near Gallatin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gallatin Senior Citizens Center.

Myrtle Irene Minter

1917-2008
Myrtle Irene (Jarrett) Minter of Lexington, Mo., passed away on Feb. 22, 2008, at Shirkey’s Leisure Acres in Richmond, Mo. Myrtle was born Sept. 18, 1917, in McFall, Mo., to Ross and Etta (Boyle) Jarrett.

On Aug. 28,1938, Myrtle married Darl D. Minter of Lexington, Mo.
Myrtle was a talented and loving baker, cook, seamstress and homemaker. Her pies, cookies and cakes were enjoyed by everyone who knew her
