Board eyes jail crime investigator, may raise costs

Daviess County Sheriff Kevin Heldenbrand talked with the Daviess-DeKalb Regional Jail Board about hiring a jail crime investigator during their regular meeting held Friday, Jan. 25, at Pattonsburg.

FEC informs members of an 8% rate increase

Residential members of Farmers’ Electric Cooperative will receive a general rate increase of about 8% this spring.

The rate increase will go into effect with the May 1 billing period. Commercial and industrial rates will also change and vary based on usage and current rate classifications.

Renovations underway at jail

The Daviess-DeKalb Regional jail houses about 300 people five months out of the year and the amount of traffic takes its toll on the facility.

Jail Administrator Larry Hadley said the “B” bay, pictured above, holds about 33 inmates. The concrete showers will get a stainless steel overlay and non-stick floors; the plumbing will get new pipes and new wiring.

Escape of two prisoners prompts call for changes at regional jail

The escape of the two prisoners from the Daviess-DeKalb Regional Jail has prompted Daviess County Sheriff Kevin Heldenbrand and DeKalb County Sheriff Wes Raines and Jail Administrator Larry Hadley to make some changes to the jail at Pattonsburg.

Bids are being taken for a fence with razor wire to encompass the entire jail. The annex building will be redone to put in expanding metalwork behind the sheet rock.

City’s generators need repaired, bucket truck needs new engine

Steve Reid stated that the balancers on two generators need repaired.

The cost would be about $8,600 for each engine. He has scheduled for one repair to be done this year. Mr. Reid also discussed repairs to the new bucket truck.
