Irma Griffin

Funeral services for Irma Griffin were held Sunday at Scotland Church of Christ in Daviess County.

Burial was in the Scotland Cemetery. Arrangements were by Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home in Trenton.
Memorial contributions have been suggested to the Scotland Cemetery.
Irma Mildred Griffin, 94, Jamesport, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton.

Gallatin Clubs – Daviess County Business Women’s Association

Seventeen members and one guest, Nita Cragg, met for the monthly dinner/meeting of Daviess County Business Women’s Association at Cycles on Sept. 11.

 Hostesses for the evening were Jane McKinsey and Deanna McWilliams. After dinner, Nita shared her apron collection and the stories related to some of them. A few members also brought aprons for “show and tell.” Birthday raffles were won by Nita Cragg, Lorie Kloepping and Norma Griffin.

Gallatin Clubs – Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post #2172

 The Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post #2172, Gallatin, met at the Presbyterian Church on Sept. 13.

   Secretary Darlene Patton read official communications from the Department of Missouri President and information materials concerning projects for 2007-2008.
     Treasurer Cleda Thomas announced that we are now 100% for membership dues collected. Committee Chairmen discussed which projects our membership will be able to participate in and what materials will be needed. Plans were finalized

Daviess County Courthouse News (9/26/07)

 County Commission

James Lewis, bridge supervisor, reported that he had requested steel bids to be submitted this week.

Dave Hamilton, Shafer, Kline & Warren, met with the commission regarding their Bridge Engineering Assistance Program (BEAP) inspection program for county bridges. This program is MoDOT funding for engineering of existing bridges in need of improvements.

Becky Carlson, State of Missouri archivist, met with the commission regarding retention of records.

R-6 sets Veterans Day program for Nov. 12

The Winston R-6 Board of Education set a Veterans Day Program for Nov. 12 during their regular meeting on Thursday, Sept. 20.

Regional board training will be held at Winston Jan. 24-26.
Seventeen children are in preschool and 101 in kindergarten through sixth grade, for an attendance rate of 96.74%. Students of the Month for elementary were Craig Lewis and Sydney Salmon.
High school enrollment was 78, with an attendance

There is a beautiful group of ladies known as “The St. Louis Strutters & Co.” who are coming to the Grundy County Senior Center, 2901 Hoover Drive, in Trenton on Oct. 6.

Dorothy McIntosh celebrates 80th birthday

Dorothy McIntosh will be celebrating her 80th birthday.

Her children and grandchildren will be hosting a reception at the First Christian Church Fellowship Hall, 1901 Alder Street, Bethany, from 2-4 p.m. on Sept. 29. All friends and relatives are invited to share in the celebration. No gifts, please.

Joshua Daniel Read

Terry and Lisa Read of San Antonio, Texas, would like to announce the birth of their son, Joshua Daniel, born at 2 a.m. on Sept. 13, 2007.

 Joshua weighed 5 pounds, 11 ounces, and was 18 ½ inches long.
Samuel and Deloris Read of Gallatin are the paternal grandparents. Patricia Cecilia of San Antonio and Juan and Loretta Cecilia of Miami, Fla., are the maternal grandparents.

Library receives monthly memorials

Several new books have been placed in the Daviess County Library by patrons as memorial donations. 

Phil and Nancy Tate donated the book, “Chicken Soup for the Father and Daughter Soul” in memory of Jack Lynch and “Christmas with Southern Living, 2007" in honor of Janet Selby.
Two books were given in memory of Stan Ellis by his family; “Absolute Victory, America’s Greatest Generation and Their World War II Triumph”
