Conservation a part of energy solution

by Congressman Sam Graves

This month, I’ve been discussing energy issues. I believe that weaning ourselves off of foreign sources of energy is a three-legged stool. We’ve discussed the first two legs: more American energy development and increased use of renewable fuels. The final leg is conservation.
All three legs are necessary, because each by itself is not the magic bullet. I do not believe that we can conserve our

Family Daze: Child’s artwork – the kids are alright

by Debbie Farmer

It seems you can’t open a magazine these days without reading about a new way to analyze your children. I usually skip those articles since I don’t see any point to know ahead of time that my child may have an inherent character flaw and will grow up to be an antisocial, psychopathic mass murder. I’d much rather be surprised.
But one recent day I was in

Coonridge Digest: The talk of old-timers

by Freida Marie Crump

Greetings from the Ridge.
Grandma was always talking about her pajamas. At least that’s how it appeared to me when I was a youngster running roughshod around her cookie-infused kitchen. It seemed like she began every sentence with, “I have a nighty…” I wondered why she kept reminding me of what she wore to bed.
Years later I learned that was Grandma’s short-cut for “I have

Look into my eyes

by Denny Banister

Clancy just stared me through with a look that was both questioning and critical, as if he was trying to determine why I sharply reprimanded him.
I had never before had to resort to thumping him on the head to get his attention, and his stare directly into my eyes for more than an hour seemed to ask “Why?”
Before you accuse me of child abuse, you

Post Scripts: Big change in our world

by Joe Snyder

The prophet Isaiah warns us that in the “last days” God is going to turn the world upside down."  According to this prophecy, sudden judgment is coming upon our planet and big change will take place in one hour and the world will never be the same.
Now I am not a Bible scholar nor am I what you could call a “religious nut.” What I am

‘Made in USA’ …in a local way!

Cherie and Jay Merrill have opened the Rocking Star General Store on the south side of the square in Gallatin.

They hope to gradually acquire consignment items from local artists and craftsmen to display in the store.
“We want to build up American artistry and workmanship and bring back pride in America,” said Cherie.
She describes her visits to a local town where she shopped, expecting to find Amish made

2007 Softball: Lady Bulldogs win Hamilton Tourney, sweep series with Lady Hornets

The next-to-last week of regular-season softball offered nearly everything Gallatin’s Lady Bulldogs could want, except a lone share of the Grand River Conference title.

The Lady Bulldogs took a 15-0 record to King City Tuesday night, but came away on the wrong end of a 5-1 decision to the Lady Wildkats. It was a long week for Gallatin, which played six games in six days.

King City, 15-5 overall and
