Altamont sisters receive minor injuries in accident

Altamont sisters Kaddie and Samantha Mott received minor injuries in an accident on 165th Street, a half mile north of Altamont at about 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22.

According to a report by the Missouri Highway Patrol, the accident occurred as Blair Shock, 26, Altamont, was northbound on 165th Street and attempted to make a left hand turn into a private driveway. He failed to yield to

Daviess county Senate Bill 40 Board Sept. 10

The regular September meeting of the Daviess County Board for the Developmentally Disabled (Senate Bill 40) has been moved to Monday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m.

Pattonsburg FFA Chapter’s Mariah Wood awarded Reserve Grand Champion

Many of the Pattonsburg FFA members participated in the 2007 State FFA Fair. They made corsages, bridal bouquets, and boutonnieres.

Mariah Wood was awarded the Reserve Grand Champion on her corsage, gold rating on her bridal bouquet and a silver on her boutonniere.

Maudie M. Wiser

A memorial visitation will be held Friday Aug. 31, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m., at Polley Funeral Home, 5951 E. Hwy 10, Excelsior Springs.

Burial will take place at a later date at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Starfield, Mo. Memorials to Ray County Hospice. Arrangements were by Polley Funeral Home.

Maudie Mae Wiser, died Aug. 27, 2007 at her home in Orrick, Mo., after a long battle with cancer.

Yvonne Cate

Memorial graveside services for Yvonne Cate will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, at Greenwood Cemetery in Gallatin.

Memorials may be made to the Regional Care Hospice in Gallatin. Arrangements are by McWilliams Funeral Home, Gallatin.

Yvonne Cate, 81, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, at the Eastview Manor Care Center, Trenton.

Mrs. Cate was born on May 24, 1926, to Robert and Opal (Stafford) Terry in Jamesport.

As of 9/13/07 – GALLATIN THEATRE LEAGUE SHOWS HAVE BEEN CANCELED, due to the unexpected death of Steve Stout’s father. Steve plays the main character in "The Steve Letter-man. " The theatre league has announced that the show will be rescheduled for a weekend in the near future.

Relay for Life garners over $15,000 for cancer society

Relay for Life was held last weekend with 15 teams participating with an average of eight to 10 people on each team.

 The suffocating heat may have kept some people away, still over $15,100 was collected for the American Cancer Society and more funds are expected. There were 168 luminaries sold at $5 a piece.

The basket auction was a great success, according to organizers. The auction brought about $2,300

R-3 receives school bus award

Captain Duane L. Robinson, commanding officer of Troop H in St. Joseph, announces the selections for the Patrol’s total fleet excellence award to area school districts.

The total fleet excellence award is given to school districts that achieve a 90 percent or better approval rating during the annual school bus inspection.

School buses continue to be the safest form of land transportation, and the Patrol’s annual inspection ensures the safety

Marriage license now on same day

Beginning Aug. 28, couples getting married in the State of Missouri will no longer have to make two trips to the county Recorder of Deeds office.

Upon application, a couple may obtain their license the same day they apply, if they will be married within 30 days.

Previously, the bride and groom were required to appear before the Recorder of Deeds to make application and wait three days and return
