Runoff causing problems near local sale barn

Good fences make good neighbors.

But fences won’t help ease the friction that has developed between the Gallatin Livestock Market and a few of its neighbors.

"The bottom line is we have about 2,000 head of cattle conglomerated for a couple of days in a small area and we’re right in the middle of town," said Danny Froman, owner of the sale barn. "We’re trying to alleviate that problem."

The biggest, the best ‘whopper’ told yet…and it’s true!

Carl Bennett and his son, Garrett, and a friend, Jordan Hunter, caught this 92 pound monster Blue Cat in the Grand River west of Pattonsburg and near McFall.

Carl has been asking everybody and anybody if they know of a bigger fish caught out of the Grand River.

"It’s the biggest out of the Grand that I know of," said Agent Bill Leinhart of the Harrison County Department of Conservation.

Lake Viking celebrates 40th anniversary

Lake Viking celebrated its 40th anniversary Saturday, with sun-splashed activities attracting nearly 3,000 people to a barbecue and free musical entertainment.

A members only dance capped the day-long event with nearly 1,000 members in attendance.

The celebration was a public event where the 1,500 lot owners invited others to join their landowner association by purchasing lake lots. The weather cooperated, too û allowing boating, swimming, volleyball and other games to

Card shower for Jewel Swofford

A card shower has been announced for Jewel Swofford’s 86th birthday on July 28.

Jewel broke his hip and underwent surgery Thursday, July 19, at Heartland Health in St. Joseph. Cards may be sent to him at his home address: 201 E. Allen, Gallatin, MO 64640.

R-6 board raises base salary $1,000

The Winston R-6 Board of Education approved a motion to raise the base salary of teachers $1,000 for a base of $24,000.

Lesli Lin’s resignation was accepted. Mrs. Lin has accepted the superintendent secretary position at the Gallatin school.

Discussion was held about termites and bid proposals were reviewed. The board will get additional bids.

Summer maintenance repairs in building were discussed.

Lunch prices were raised for adults from $2.25

Improvements to R-3 high school finished, elementary has begun

Ms. Kirby presented summer improvements to the North Daviess R-3 Board of Education during their regular meeting held Monday, July 16.

Improvements, which included lowering the ceiling in the science room, have been finished at the high school building. Improvements of the elementary have begun. The sign in the front of the high school building is being sand blasted and painted and will return to its regular position when it

R-2 hires elementary principal

Mrs. Holly Brady was hired as elementary principal during the regular meeting of the Pattonsburg R-2 Board of Education held Wednesday, July 18.

The resignation of Elementary Principal Rick Collier was accepted during the June meeting, effective June 30.

The board will advertise for bids for the installation of acoustical/noise reduction materials to improve sound quality in the school’s gym. The goal is to have the work done before school
