Patrons encouraged to repair mailboxes

"Repairing city and rural mailboxes improves the appearance of the community and makes delivering and receiving mail safer for postal carriers and customers," said Gallatin Postmaster Carl Wiles.

As the summer months arrive, patrons are encouraged to inspect and repair the condition of their mailbox and make improvements as needed.

Some typical activities that may need to be done include: painting to prevent rust; securing the box to a post

Jan Johnson to facilitate seminar at conference

Jan Johnson, the director of the Daviess County Library, will be facilitating one of the evening sessions at the 2007 State Library Summer Institute held July 31-Aug. 3 at Columbia.

Summer Institute provides an opportunity for library staff who do not have an advanced degree in library/information science to learn the basics of librarianship or update their library skills. The Institute offers both Basic Library Skills courses and Advanced Library

Softer water may cause residents to want to celebrate, no real fireworks before the 4th

Water Plant Manager Steve Reid told the Gallatin Board of Aldermen that the water department may change who supplies the water plant chemicals during their regular meeting held Monday, June 25.

Mr. Reid has met with a new company that has a product that would make the city’s water softer and increase water flow. There would be an initial setup cost, but otherwise the cost would remain about the same

R-3 accepts bid for barrel roof repair; hires new teachers, accepts Sarver’s resignation

Ted Holcomb and Ansel Tate put in a bid for barrel roof repair over the high school gymnasium for $3,100 and the North Daviess Board of Education accepted their bid during their regular meeting held June 18 at Coffey.

Nancy Edwards was offered a speech therapy contract.

Woods advances to finals in FFA public speaking contest, six from R-2 attend

Six members of the Pattonsburg FFA Chapter recently attended the Missouri Public Speaking Academy held in Warrensburg.

Mariah Wood’s presentation on agribility helped her advance to the finals where she placed fourth in the intermediate division. Alyssa Lambert, Kate Hangley, and Becca Bowland qualified for semi-finals.

Pattonsburg Clubs – Tree Climbers

Several attended the Tree Climbers meeting last Thursday.

Work is being done to index some of the older books. Beverly Mason has been busy organizing some of the McFall School pictures and items. We still need more pictures. We rented a new copying machine and it is working fine. We have 70 members now, and would be glad to have more. Memorial bricks are on display in the Tree Climbers
