Gallatin, Pattonsburg earn recognition for “Distinction in Performance”

Gallatin R-5 and Pattonsburg R-2 in Daviess County were among more than 200 Missouri school districts to have earned the state’s "Distinction in Performance" award for their academic achievement and progress during the last school year (2005-06), state education officials announced recently.

A total of 235 school districts qualified for the Distinction in Performance award, presented annually by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Of this year’s recipients, 188

Gallatin aldermen adopt budget

The Gallatin Board of Aldermen adopted an annual budget for the fiscal year beginning on Jan. 1, 2007, during their regular meeting held Wednesday, Dec. 20, at city hall. The budget appropriates funds and sets salaries of city employees.

City Administrator Zac Johnson reported that he had attended a MOPEP meeting Tuesday, Dec. 19, regarding the projections of next year’s wholesale electric bill, which should be comparable to the costs

R-6 board updated on lightning damage

Superintendent Lisa Bielby updated the Winston R-6 Board of Education on the lightning damage to the school during their regular meeting held Dec. 21.

In other business, the board approved the following: School Report Card; the final report on program education; and the school audit. Program evaluation reports covered special services, vocational programs, gifted education and community education.

Authorized personnel for banking information were approved.

R-2 board reviews candidates for superintendent

The Pattonsburg R-2 Board of Education entered into an executive session to review applications for the superintendent’s position during their regular meeting held Wednesday, Dec. 20. A special board meeting was set for Jan. 9 in order to interview candidates.

In other business, the board discussed scholarship funds.

Elementary Principal Rick Collier reported an enrollment of 78 in kindergarten through sixth grades, and an attendance rate of 93.5%.

“Kiss the Pig” contest raises funds for Cancer Society

The Gallatin FCCLA chapter sponsored a Kiss A Pig contest to help raise money for the American Cancer Society Relay For Life. Four GHS Staff members, Pam Critten, Jeremy Hobbs, Heather McNeely, and Chris Elbert, were in the running to kiss the pig. The winner, the staff member with the most money in thier jar, was announced at a special school assembly on Dec. 21. A total of $156.00 was
