Six defendants indicted in area meth conspiracy

Six defendants were indicted by a federal grand jury yesterday for participating in a conspiracy to distribute methampheta- mine, according to Bradley J. Schlozman, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri.

The defendants are primarily from the Cameron area. This indictment is the result of an investigation conducted by the NITRO Task Force.

Jason Cornett earns diploma from Vatterott

Jason Cornett of Pattonsburg has earned a diploma in Computer Aided Drafting at Vatterott College in Kansas City.

Vatterott College is a private career college offering specialized, technology-focused, hands-on training programs in the fastest growing industries. The Kansas City campus offers programs focused on the information technology, healthcare and technical trade industries.

About…That Old House…Fitter’s

Tom Wilson of St. Louis wrote to say his grandparents purchased the home that was pictured in last week’s paper being moved to make room for the new Casey’s store.

Mr. Wilson wasn’t sure when his grandparents bought it. His grandfather was Thomas Humphrey Wilson (known by many as “Uncle Tommy”) who also served as a deputy sheriff. Some of the family story has him hauling produce up the hill

Orley Shrock

Funeral services for Orley Shrock were held at 12 noon today (Wednesday), Oct. 25, at the Abe Kurtz residence, Jamesport. Burial was at Meadowview Cemetery, near Jamesport.

Arrangements were by McWilliams Funeral Home, Jamesport.
Orley E. Shrock, 68, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2006, at the Wright Memorial Hospital, Trenton.
Survivors include two sons, Henry Shrock, Windsor, and Lonnie Shrock, Jamesport; two daughters, Anna May Miller and Leanna Kay Shrock, both

$892,767 in federal homeland security grants now available to Region H counties

The Region H Homeland Security Oversight Committee announces $892,767 in federal homeland security grant funds, available to local jurisdictions in the counties of Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Caldwell, Clinton, Daviess, DeKalb, Gentry, Grundy, Harrison, Holt, Livingston, Mercer, Nodaway, and Worth counties. Funding categories for the 2006 grant cycle include Agriculture Risk Management, Volunteer and Donations, Mass Care, and Interoperable Communications.

Christmas on the Farm at Watkins

Watkins Woolen Mill State Historic Site invites you to come celebrate an 1870s Victorian Christmas at the Watkins Home from 12 noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2.


Admission is free and activities will include caroling, seasonal refreshments, games and Christmas crafts for the kids, visits from Father Christmas, and other period entertainment that will last into the evening hours, when the house will be lit by lamplight.
