Mike’s Tire Repair opens on West Grand

Mike’s Tire Repair, located at 208 West Grand, has been opened for business about a month, according to owner Mike Curtis.

The business handles brakes, shocks, struts, belts, hoses, tune-ups, oil changes, lubes, and minor engine repairs. Mike also does small engine repair, like lawn mowers, weed eaters and chain saws.

Kyle Burke stable, recovering; three area teenagers seriously injured in separate accident

A 22 month-old boy, Kyle Burke, is stable and recovering according to his grandmother, Jenny Russell of Coffey, although he remains in the intensive care unit at Children’s Mercy Hospital today (Wednesday).

Kyle was seriously injured when he was struck by the right rear tire of a pickup driven by his grandmother, Lisa Long, 48, Jamesport. The accident happened at about 4:35 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24.

School enrollments vary slightly from last year’s student counts

Compared to this time last year, enrollment numbers are down at Gallatin R-5, Pattonsburg R-2, North Daviess R-3 and Winston R-6. Tri-County R-7 has seen an increase in its number of students.

Gallatin R-5 is up 23 students from the beginning of the school year, but remains fairly consistent with total enrollment from last year. At the end of May there were 599, now there are 622 enrolled at R-5.

R-6 accepts bid for replacement of bell/intercom system

R-3 to receive about $80,000 in grant money

During their regular meeting held Monday, Sept. 18, Superintendent Julie Kirby reported to the North Daviess R-3 Board of Education that the school is scheduled to receive approximately $80,000 in grants which will be used for teacher training, drug abuse prevention, technology equipment and training, Internet connections, and library materials.

The financial statement was presented by Ms. Kirby and bills paid as presented.

R-2 receives clean audit report

Westbrook Auditing Firm reported on the results of the school audit during the regular meeting of the Pattonsburg R-2 Board of Education held Wednesday, Sept. 20. The school received a clean audit with the auditors telling them everything looked fine. The board voted to approve the audit report.
