Daviess County Genealogical Society

The first meeting of the Daviess County Genealogical Society met on Friday, June 24, at the Gallatin Daviess County Library. Lanita Sconce Smith of Jamesport, was elected President. Dues were set at $20 a year. Plans were also made to take pictures of each stone in each cemetery in the county and put the pictures on a CD. Each cemetery’s CD will be sold separately. Proceeds will go toward purchasing

DeShon’s teaching license revoked

DeShon admitted in federal court in March that he embezzled $844,477 over four years from the district

The state Board of Education voted Thursday to take away the teaching license of a former superintendent who stole more than $800,000 from his school district.

The board, with little discussion, revoked the licenses of Ronnie DeShon, former superintendent of the Pattonsburg School District.

Lindsey Dustman dances in national competitions

Lindsey Dustman, daughter of Lynn and Jean Dustman of Laredo, danced in the Spot Light National Competition held in Branson on June 21. She received a high first diamond award. Lindsey is a student of Gayla’s Dance at Trenton. She is the granddaughter of Wilbur and Margaret Burns and Joyce Dustman, all of Gallatin.

Vanload of illegal immigrants apprehended in Daviess County

Following a traffic stop by Deputy Larry Todd Watson, the Immigration Naturalization Service (INS) responded and picked up 17 illegal immigrants who were traveling in a van on I-35. They were first taken to Midwest Security Housing in Pattonsburg and then transported to the INS Holding Center in Caldwell County. The driver, Marco T. Ibarra, 38, Los Angeles, Calif., was charged with misdemeanor no valid license
