Anyone who hasn’t been on the receiving end of domestic violence may find it easy to shrug off the whole subject by saying, “If it’s so bad, she (or far less frequently, he) should just get out.”

But anyone who has lived in physical or psychological terror, or been involved with those who have, knows the phenomenon can’t be cured
