Estes earns English award

Jamie Estes of Coffey has been named a United States National Award winner in English.

Jamie Estes of Coffey has been named a United States National Award winner in English. Jamie was nominated by Gregg Hartley, a teacher at the school. She will appear in the United States Achievement Academy Official Yearbook, which is published nationally.

Jamie is the daughter of Brent and Marquitta Brown and the late Elizabeth Brown

Replacement of R-3 gym floor on hold for now

A complete replacement is needed, but will be delayed into the future.

During their regular meeting held May 12, Superintendent Julie Kirby told the North Daviess R-3 Board of Education that three more tiles are up in the elementary gym. The school will not be repainting the gym floor this summer. A complete replacement is needed, but will be delayed into the future.

Lucille Swofford

Lucille (Youtsey) Swofford, 87, Gallatin, died Wednesday, May 21, 2003.

Graveside services for Lucille Swofford were held Saturday at Centenary Cemetery in Gallatin. Arrangements were by McWilliams Family Funeral Home, Gallatin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer Foundation.

Lucille (Youtsey) Swofford, 87, Gallatin, died Wednesday, May 21, 2003.

Mrs. Youtsey was born Aug. 5, 1915 in Jameson. She graduated from Jameson High School in 1933.

Verda C. Duke

Verda Carmine Duke, 89, Gallatin, died Saturday, May 24, 2003, at a St. Joseph hospital.

Funeral services for Verda Duke were held Tuesday at the McWilliams Family Funeral Home in Gallatin. Graveside service and burial was held at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Douds, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
