Local students to participate in agriculture academy

Erin Croy and Emily Gay, both of Gallatin were chosen to participate in the 16th class of the Missouri Agribusiness Academy.

Erin Croy and Emily Gay, both of Gallatin were among the high school sophomores from across Missouri recently were chosen to participate in the 16th class of the Missouri Agribusiness Academy.

Sponsored by the Missouri Department of Agriculture, the academy each year acquaints 30 students with career opportunities available

FFA Banquet honors student’s hard work, new officers inducted

On Monday, May 12, the Gallatin FFA Banquet was held in the Searcy Elementary gym with 275 members and guests present.

Lucille Swofford

Lucille (Youtsey) Swofford, 87, Gallatin, died Wednesday, May 21, 2003.

Graveside services for Lucille Swofford were held Saturday at Centenary Cemetery in Gallatin. Arrangements were by McWilliams Family Funeral Home, Gallatin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer Foundation.

Lucille (Youtsey) Swofford, 87, Gallatin, died Wednesday, May 21, 2003.

Mrs. Youtsey was born Aug. 5, 1915 in Jameson. She graduated from Jameson High School in 1933.

Verda Carmine Duke, 89, Gallatin, died Saturday, May 24, 2003, at a St. Joseph hospital.

Funeral services for Verda Duke were held Tuesday at the McWilliams Family Funeral Home in Gallatin. Graveside service and burial was held at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Douds, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Helen Elizabeth Welch, 89, Cameron, formerly of Hamilton, died Monday, May 26, 2003, at the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Cameron.

Funeral services for Helen E. Welch, stepmother of Anne Welch Bell of Winston, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Bram Funeral Home in Hamilton. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery, Hamilton. There is no formal visitation. Memorials may be made to her church.
