Drumming up a special Christmas memory

One of the Christmas surprises I enjoyed most was the annual Gallatin R-5 band concert. Simply put: the best in years!

It was unusual. There was logic in the seating arrangement, placing the audience on one side of the gym with seating for the different performing groups already in position. There were fewer words and more music, and the words spoken were meaningful.

Family Daze: A mother’s “new” resolutions

I always start the new year by writing a list of ambitious resolutions that are harder to achieve than fitting into my pre-pregnancy jeans. Although I always start out with the best of intentions, this year I figured I might be more successful if I lowered my standards and modified my resolutions to more reasonable goals.

Last year’s resolution: The television will remain off during school days.
