in the Missouri State Gymnastic Meet

Ashley Huffman, daughter of Glen and Kelly Huffman of rural Gallatin competed June 1 in the Missouri State Gymnastic Meet at Jefferson City. Ashley won a ribbon and a trophy for placing in the top ten. She is a member of the Chillicothe YMCA Aerial Angels Gymnastics Team. Ashley competed in the floor exercise, the vault, beams and bars. Basketball camps starting, permission forms needed

Youngsters wanting to join basketball camps this season should pick up permission forms at the superintendent’s office at the Gallatin High School. Return them to coaches, Cindy and David Prather. Their address is 167 Catfish Court, Gallatin, 64640. Phone 663-2262.

Schedules for camps are as follows: Boys Junior High Camp 5:30-8:30 July 22-25; Boys High School Camp 5:30-8:30 July 15-18. Cost is $25.

Brandi Carder receives ag alumni scholarship

Brandi Carder, an upcoming senior at the University of Missouri Columbia, received word that she is the recipient of the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR) Ag Alumni Scholarship.

The Gallatin Garden Club met at Breadeaux with nine members present. Mary Ann Heldenbrand was hostess. The minutes and treasury report were accepted. Dennis and Sharon Steigerwalts’s yard was chosen as “Yard of the Month” and they gave a tour to the club members.

Brock Griffin to compete in national rodeo finals

Brock Griffin of Jameson will compete at the National High School Rodeo Finals July 22-28, 2002, at Farmington, N.M. The top four in each event will compete at the 54th National High School Finals Rodeo. Known as the world’s largest rodeo, the NHSFR features 1,500 contestants competing for national titles, scholarships and prizes.

Fireworks display at the lake slated for Saturday, July 6

Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m.

Lake Viking Association will host a public fireworks display on Saturday, July 6, to celebrate our national Independence Day.

This is a public event. You are invited to bring lawn chairs to the clubhouse area to enjoy the display at 9:30 p.m. Other access is restricted to lake property owners and their guests.

Lake Viking Lions Club will serve a pancake breakfast from 7 a.m.

11 a.m. — FEMA/rescue dogs demo begins and wilderness rescue booth opens; kids/pets games; pet adopt-a-thon; raffles; flea market; art show; bake sale; various vendor booths open.
