Steigerwalts chosen for “Yard of the Month”

Gallatin Garden Club

The Gallatin Garden Club met at Breadeaux with nine members present. Mary Ann Heldenbrand was hostess. The minutes and treasury report were accepted. Dennis and Sharon Steigerwalts’s yard was chosen as “Yard of the Month” and they gave a tour to the club members.

Brandi Carder, an upcoming senior at the University of Missouri Columbia, received word that she is the recipient of the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR) Ag Alumni Scholarship.

Basketball camps starting, permission forms needed

Youngsters wanting to join basketball camps this season should pick up permission forms at the superintendent’s office at the Gallatin High School. Return them to coaches, Cindy and David Prather. Their address is 167 Catfish Court, Gallatin, 64640. Phone 663-2262.

Schedules for camps are as follows: Boys Junior High Camp 5:30-8:30 July 22-25; Boys High School Camp 5:30-8:30 July 15-18. Cost is $25.

Ashley Huffman in gymnastic’s top ten

in the Missouri State Gymnastic Meet

Ashley Huffman, daughter of Glen and Kelly Huffman of rural Gallatin competed June 1 in the Missouri State Gymnastic Meet at Jefferson City. Ashley won a ribbon and a trophy for placing in the top ten. She is a member of the Chillicothe YMCA Aerial Angels Gymnastics Team. Ashley competed in the floor exercise, the vault, beams and bars. Youth injured in blowout on Hwy. 69

Tyson Martin, 17, Gallatin, received moderate injuries

Tyson Martin, 17, Gallatin, received moderate injuries in a one-vehicle accident in Daviess County Thursday, June 20, according to a report by the Missouri Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred at about 6:18 p.m. as Mr. Tyson was northbound on Hwy. 69 about four miles north of Pattonsburg. He lost control when a rear tire blew on the 1980 Chevy truck he was driving.

Sizzling summer days may prompt gardeners and homeowners to look at some relatively unknown ornamentals that grow well in hot weather.

“Fortunately, there are species that thrive in high temperatures,” said David Trinklein, University of Missouri horticulturist. “Unfortunately, many of us are unfamiliar with these species and have not tried them.”
