Postal service offers helpful holiday hints

Mail early

The U.S. Postal Service expects to deliver 20 billion greeting cards and packages this season so some helpful hints might help your holiday letters and packages arrive in time for the holidays.

1. Mail early. International packages need to be on their way ASAP. Domestic parcel post in the USA takes seven to 10 days. Last minute rush? Go express mail or priority mail.

Completion of new hospital projected for summer of 2002

Cameron Regional Medical Center

As construction progresses on the new Cameron Regional Medical Center, fund-raising efforts continue toward the $2 million goal necessary to equip and furnish the facility, according to Dr. L.W. (Bill) McDonald and Ken Raffety, Cameron Community Hospital fund raising committee co-chairs.

To date, ten of the 21 private rooms in the new hospital have been pledged at $7,500 each, and one of the nine semi-private rooms

New honorary diplomas for veterans now offered

Contact North Daviess School

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is now working with the Missouri Veterans Commission to implement a new program known as Operation Recognition, which was established this year by the General Assembly. Through this state-wide program, honorary high school diplomas will be awarded to eligible Missouri Veterans who dropped out of school to serve in the armed forces.

Edna Taul

Edna Myrle Taul, 83, Gallatin, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, at her home.

Funeral services for Edna Taul will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at McWilliams Family Funeral Home in Gallatin. Visitation is from 7-8:30 p.m. tonight (Wednesday) at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Gallatin. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the First Christian Church Building Fund in Gallatin.

Norma L. Ferguson, 72, Lee’s Summit, died Nov. 25, 2001, at Truman Medical Center East.

Funeral services for Norma Ferguson were held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday), Nov. 28, at D.W. Newcomer’s Longview Funeral Home in Kansas City. Interment was at Longview Memorial Gardens. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Parkinson’s Research Foundation at KU Medical Center.
