Slight population increase offsets loss in Union Township

Overall during the last decade, the population in Daviess County has increased by 186 persons.

A governmental research newsletter edited by John Ballard has posted the 2000 Census figures for Daviess County. Overall during the last decade, the population in Daviess County has increased by 186 persons. Each township has shown an increase except Union Township (Gallatin) which decreased by 190 persons. The Census numbers are as follows:

Merger mostly means name change

First National Bank to be renamed Farmers Bank of Northern Missouri.

The oldest and largest bank operating in Daviess County will undergo a name change if a merger application is approved by governing authorities as expected. Legal notice of the application appeared in last week’s issue and is scheduled to be published again next week.

Carnahan’s name will remain on ballot

If Carnahan receives the most votes, a vacancy will be declared and the governor will name a replacement.
