Levy rollback for R-5

The Gallatin R-5 School District board of education agreed to rollback the tax levy by seven cents this year.

The Gallatin R-5 Board of Education voted to roll back the tax levy by seven cents for the current school year during the tax rate hearing held at the regular meeting last Thursday at the high school. The tax levy will drop from $3.87 to $3.80. The decrease follows general reassessment

Bank branch to close

The Coffey branch of the Guaranty Bank and Trust will be closed at the end of October, bank officials have announced.

The Coffey branch of Guaranty Bank and Trust will be closing its doors officially on Sunday, Oct. 31, according to branch president Gary Reynolds.

Collins at MVC

GHS grad Derek Collins will play basketball at Missouri Valley College this year.

Derek Collins, a 1999 graduate of Gallatin High School, is attending Missouri Valley College in Marshall this fall. At MVC, Derek expects to compete on the Viking basketball team under head coach Tom Fifer, who is also director of athletics.

Derek is the son of Penny Gardner of Pattonsburg.

GHS softball lineup

There are a number of new faces on the Gallatin High School softball linup this season.

Gallatin’s softball youth movement is in full swing this season as the young and untested Lady Bulldogs prepare to square off against Smithville tomorrow (Thursday) at 4:30 p.m. at the GHS softball field. Color this squad small in numbers and experience but big in enthusiasm and hard work ethic.

Daviess County commission

Routine matters brought before the weekly meeting.

Following are approved minutes of the Daviess County Commission for Aug. 16. All members were present.

Daniel Lynn, bridge supervisor, and James Lewis, foreman, met with the commission reporting on ongoing projects and repairs.

Sally Hunt, Fine Arts Council, requested permission to use the courthouse lobby for displays during Chautauqua, Sept. 17-18. Permission was granted.
